A report on Blagoevgrad’s Road Policies

Now, this is a very special report for me, as I managed to do a real life interview with the Blagoevgrad Chief of Road police, so I hope you will enjoy it. The topic is by all means not very light-hearted, but I think it is worth covering. Over the months of December and January, three women were hit by cars on a very busy road in the Bulgarian town Blagoevgrad, one of them sadly passed away. As much as this is a terrible story, the further development on the case is interesting, especially in terms of the measures taken … Continue reading A report on Blagoevgrad’s Road Policies

The end is just a new beginning

Hello everyone,

I decided to make the last post of the semester special for everybody, who might be interested in reading it 🙂 IMG_7470 For me, it has been a wonderful and fulfilling experience creating my own first blog and being able to develop my abilities in such a way to somehow inspire others and reach out to people from all around the world … I truly appreciate it, because the few things worth living for are creating, developing one’s abilities and bringing the same mood to those around you … well, that might just be my opinion perhaps … One of my favorite quotes of all time in fact is:

”We were all meant to shine like children do. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same…our presence automatically liberates others…” from ”Coach Carter” Continue reading “The end is just a new beginning”

A secret world, full of wonder

IFEF_Sofia_2012  The first time I ever went to the International Festival of the Ethnographic Film was 3 years ago and it was its first edition. I remember I didn’t even want to go that much, I did it simply because of one of my best friends, who was studying Ethnology at the Sofia University in Bulgaria, needed some company. In that train of thought I hardly knew what to expect really. I just supposed it would be somewhat like a documentary movie festival. Continue reading “A secret world, full of wonder”

The Little Italy of Blagoevgrad

Just passing by the local Blagoevgrad theatre and going 5 minutes up the hill, one can find a true gem – some mediterranean breeze coming from a restaurant, called ”Toscana”. Its location seems to be one of the best-kept secrets in the city, but it is only reasonable, having in mind the restaurant is only one-year old. Continue reading “The Little Italy of Blagoevgrad”

From Zero to BLOGbuster – or the first steps of a blogger

Hi, everyone,

I decided to make this post as personal as it can possibly get.

To be perfectly honest I never even thought I would enjoy the whole process so much. At first I imagined the difficulties as far as contacting different people and editing sound and video goes. However gradually, as you start learning so many new things in the process and get so much positive feedback, you actually start enjoying even the difficult parts, you just want to get it done in the best possible way. AUBG Daily : How an OWL took over the news

The owl became the symbol of one of the most successful media in AUBG’s [American University in Bulgaria] history. The Daily also happens to be the youngest media on campus.

It all started with a couple of enthusiastic students approximately one year ago, when the founder of the media, Angel Ivanov came up with the idea. Gradually, as his team members in this independent project contributed to the creation with ideas, inspiration and perspiration, the final product was complete. The Entrepreneurship idea is about to take over Bulgaria

In a recent visit to Boston, the newly-elected Bulgarian president Rosen Plevneliev tried to encourage entrepreneurs from all over the US to increase their investments in Bulgaria.  The reason for this new campaign is the upcoming creation of the ”Sofia Tech Park” as the President himself pointed out the establishing of a new entrepreneurship culture in Bulgaria. Among the many responses to his proposals and ideas, were those that clearly stated that the first step to building such a mindset is namely to encourage local entrepreneurship.
